Data scientist,
home gardener &
policy enthusiast

Hi, I’m Steph. I help people and organizations use data effectively.

I collaborate with great teams to solve tough problems in healthcare and health policy.

I help people make sense of their data by supporting analyses from start to finish -- from clearly articulating the problem we’re trying to solve, figuring out what data we need to collect, making a plan for how to structure what we discover, and communicating the results in a way that is clear and actionable. I have over ten years of experience architecting, analyzing, visualizing, and communicating about data.

I hold a masters degree in statistical practice from Carnegie Mellon University, and a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from UCLA. I was a health innovation research fellow at UC Berkeley and UCSF, and currently work as a lecturer in UC Berkeley’s School of Information.

  • Data strategy

I help teams articulate their data strategy.

What are you trying to accomplish? What information is needed to do that? What data do you already have? How can we address the gaps?

  • Analysis

I analyze data and create beautiful visualizations.

I explore data to answer important questions and communicate results in a way that is accessible, actionable, and beautiful.

  • Data architecture

I design and build datasets and databases.

From taxonomy development through schema design, I design data systems “from scratch”. I’ve helped design and structure data ranging from chatbot transcript data to medical record data.
